Call For Sculptors

Deadline: April 12, 2010

The City Hall Sculpture Garden will be the first permanent art garden in the City of Milwaukie. Located on the south lawn of City Hall and adjacent to Jackson Street, the Milwaukie Sculpture Garden will provide a beautiful and interesting feature for nearby bus riders and visitors to downtown Milwaukie. This exciting project will be constructed in May-June of 2010 in conjunction with the re-construction of Jackson Street. Sculpture pieces will be installed in July-August depending on artist schedule and coordination with the Jackson Street project. Gardens by Rebecca has been selected to create the garden design which is being finalized currently.

The garden will contain 6 pedestals to display work, with half the work being replaced annually with new pieces. For the first round of pieces the Milwaukie Arts Committee (knows as "artMOB") is seeking works that are "kinetic" in nature. [...]

Hometown Superhero

The Milwaukie Arts Committee was recently awarded a $2,000 grant from the Clackamas County Cultural Coalition to conduct an art show this June. The event titled "Hometown Superhero: The exclusive comic art collection of Dark Horse founder Mike Richardson" is a partnership between the Milwaukie Arts Committee (known as artMOB), Dark Horse Studios, the Milwaukie Arts Academy, and the City of Milwaukie. Mike Richardson, CEO of Dark Horse, has agreed to loan us his personal collection of rare and invaluable comic book art for display. These original boards are from some of the most well known comic book artists in the world-spanning from the 1950s to the present. The Milwaukie Arts Academy will host the show at the newly open JC Lillie Performing Arts Center on the Milwaukie High School Campus. [...]

April Poet

The Milwaukie Poetry Series Committee and the Ledding Library of Milwaukie are delighted to continue the Third Season of the Milwaukie Poetry Series with a reading by B. T. Shaw on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 7 p.m. in the Pond House adjacent to the Ledding Library, 2215 SE Harrison.

B.T. Shaw was born and raised in Central Ohio, not far from her greatgrandparents' homestead, where last October she helped field-dress her father's last deer. After a stint as a journalist, she earned an MFA from University of Washington, and since 1998 she has edited the Poetry column for The Oregonian. She teaches writing and literature at Portland State University and the University of Portland as well as through writers-in-theschools programs. [...]
