My earliest and fondest artistic memories include my be-smocked kindergarten self, paintbrush in hand, standing before an easel of primary tempera colors. That wonderful silky feel of finger painting and the discovery of modeling clay warming up and becoming workable in my hands mark moments of awareness and exploration. These young impressions have remained with me as I continue to find new ways to express myself artistically. My artistic journey has taken different avenues from oils and ceramics earlier in my life to textiles and culinary arts while raising my family. Dance has influenced my art and I often experience the dancing of the pencil or pen on the page. Then there is the dancing into paintings as a part of the process of their creation.
I like to make art in layers Some pieces are quickly drawn and finished while others go through a metamorphosis until they feel resolved. I typically have several pieces in process simultaneously so that when I inevitably reach a mental or emotional block on one piece, I can switch gears and work on another for awhile. This provides background for pieces that may be called upon at any given time to be considered finished.
